1 Timothy 1:1-7; 6:20-21

Paul instructs Timothy to stay on, dig in, take charge, and put an end to all speech that does not edify disciples in the riches of the gospel. Perseverance and growth in the faith require actively guarding against ideas that set themselves up against the knowledge of Jesus Christ and avoiding empty talk, the pride of knowledge, and needless controversy.
